Overview
In over 50 years, Kurpfalz Internat has become as competitive as Germany’s state schools. The institution is committed to supporting its students and helping them to discover their interests and develop their knowledge and skills. Kurpfalz Internat shapes confident, self-aware individuals who will conquer life’s challenges and become responsible citizens of the world.
Mrs. Erna Lehmann founded Kurpfalz Internat in 1961. The school’s first student was her son, Helge Lehmann, who struggled in mathematics and Latin in a traditional classroom setup but had a knack for electronics. For him, she established a school that diverges from the norms of state school education. Because of its warm atmosphere, the family-run boarding school that started with only 14 male students grew to be one of Germany’s most renowned private boarding schools.
Today the Kurpfalz Internat is open to male and female students. Their learning pace and performance are closely monitored in small classes of ten, making educators more attuned to their pupils’ needs. The current Chairman is Mario Lehmann, grandson of Erna, and the school will continue to remain in family hands. His daughters Clara, Annika and Marie are already heavily involved with the school. The Head of the Boarding School is an Englishman with experience of boarding schools in Great Britain and New Zealand.
The school has also accomplished a resounding milestone by establishing another boarding house for girls of the upper grade. They also built a new sports hall in 2012 and a pioneering new school building in 2018, which includes cutting-edge science facilities and interactive smartboards in every classroom.
The school employs two professional
chefs who prepare fresh food every day in School Cafeteria. On Friday evenings they have a
themed evening, such as Spanish, Greek, Chinese, and once a month a
formal dinner, when the pupils dress smartly and celebrate the start of
the weekend.
Core Values
Kurpfalz Internat students develop differently from pupils in other schools, not only because of the close-knit classroom setup but also because of the core values that the school imbues in them. Kurpfalz Internat believes that students must leave the school with the values required to face the challenges of the 21st century; these they acquire through academics, extracurricular activities, and a close working relationship with their teachers and boarding mentors.
More importantly, students must have the right attitude in life, which cannot be taught in a rigid learning system. Kurpfalz Internat teaches its students openness, accountability, and social responsibility in order to be the best people they can be in this highly diverse world.
The combination of the two Mentors, who live with the pupils in the boarding house, and the Class Teacher allows build an intimate and effective relationship with your child, giving them every opportunity to unlock their potential and make friends for life.
Academics
Kurpfalz Internat is a state-approved school offering German Abitur
and Realschulabschluss to both junior high school and high school
pupils.
The school sticks to a 10-student class size so that students can take learning at their own pace. Studies show that the traditional educational system is failing students because it neglects their individual talents and interests.
An academic year in Kurpfalz Internat has four short terms; after each one, you will receive a report on your child’s progess, both academic and pastoral. The school begins with Year 7 and finishes with Year 12. They also offer individual tutoring sessions and Summer School courses in German, English, Maths, Latin, Spanish and Language Development (Dyslexia).
Extracurricular & Boarding Activities
Education can only be efficient if there is a balance between the students’ academics and their personal interests and hobbies. As such, Kurpfalz Internat students get to enjoy a choice of no less than 60 extracurricular activities after their classes.
Athletic students may engage in various sports, including football, golf, basketball, volleyball, horse riding, tennis, aerobics, swimming, kickboxing, fencing and climbing/bouldering. Other extracurricular activities include art and design, CAD, IT and technology, Master Chef, a theatre group, a small choir and Cambridge English language courses (PET and FCE).
Kurpfalz-Internat also offers state-of-the-art facilities including an auditorium, a small cinema, two sports halls, a state-of-the-art fitness suite, various student kitchens and a Design and Technology workshop.
On weekends, students can choose to stay in the boarding school. The school keeps them entertained in their downtime by taking them to concerts, theatre shows, cultural events, and ski trips, among others.
